NewsMacy Gray covers Rod Stewart at Hollywood BowlMacy Gray covered Rod Stewart, Bob Marley and Deee-Lite during her performance at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles last night (August 26). Running through several tracks from her latest album 'Big', she thrilled an 11,000-strong audience at the KCRW World Festival with an elaborate stage production and wardrobe changes that ranged from a disco-era white-and-red pantsuit to a sharp red suit replete with a ringmaster-style top hat. Natalie Cole made a surprise appearance during Gray's first song, 'Finally Made Me Happy', but a rumoured duet with Justin Timberlake (who appears on Gray's latest album) never materialised. "Ladies and gentemen, boys and girls, pimps and hos -- all you sexy people look especially beautiful when you shake your ass," she said. In addition to playing old favourites, Gray paid tribute to Stewart by singing bits of 'Da Ya Think I'm Sexy?' as well as Bob Marley with 'No Woman No Cry' and Deee-Lite with 'Groove Is In The Heart'. Gray wrapped up her performance with her hit single 'I Try', which prompted a massive audience sing-along. Earlier in the evening, Brazilian Girls delivered a strong set led by seductive, multilingual frontwoman Sabina Sciubba who strutted down the Bowl's catwalk in a revealing catsuit. But it was Zap Mama's set that garnered the most audience participation, with the crowd members clapping and singing along to their Afro-pop, Latin-tinged rhythms. Kanye wants Peter, Bjorn & John as backing band Kanye West has reportedly asked Peter, Bjorn and John to be his backing band when he plays their home country of Sweden next month. According to Pitchfork, the rapper is set to perform at the Way Out West festival on August 11 and has worked his magic on their much-played 'Young Folks' song which they are re-releasing in September in the UK. Meanwhile, Peter, Bjorn and John kick off their US tour tonight in Los Angeles. The stint will see them play their biggest New York show to date at Roseland Ballroom. |
